• Summary of Jam Session:

In this session we did 3 critiques. Jason VanDevere – Goal Planners. Lauren Olaya – Golfing Apparel. Krystie Yeo – Special Education.

    Critiques:

    Critique 1

0:00:55 – Critique number 1 is for Jason VanDevere, https://goalcrazyplanners.com/products/goal-crazy-planner-journal-90-day?variant=30323695976500.

Homepage: Labeling the “Training” Collection to “How to Use” is a lot clearer of what the link contains. Add product details under the product listings, such as titles, price, reviews, etc. The team recommends merging the product listings on the homepage as it is just one product with multiple variations. Remove the first name option from the email optin and change the CTA text to read “Get 10% Off Now”. Embedding your videos through Youtube can be a huge distraction for users, we recommend directly embedding your video into your website using HTML5.

Collection Page: Merge the products to simplify the collection page. When you have them all listed individually users will waste their time trying to figure out the difference between each listing, when the only difference is the color.

Product Page: The team discusses transferring reviews from Amazon to Shopify. The team really likes the Free Shipping information within the buy section. Add support details within the header. Mark talks about creating 2 different variant options to split up colors and quantity. Accompany videos with headers to explain what the video is about before the user watches it. Increase the size of the UVPs under the add to cart on mobile and desktop. Gather photo reviews and remove duplicates.

    Critique 2

0:41:30 – Critique number 2 is for Lauren Olaya, http://olayasport.com/.

Homepage: Ensure there isn’t more than one popup, and make sure it is on exit intent as this can be distracting. The hero image doesn’t display any unique value propositions, this section takes up over half of the above the fold. It is important to really utilize this space by overlaying the banner with your UVP’s with a clear call to action. Eric breaks down why search is important. Since Lauren is the face behind Olaya, Jacob recommends making this clear on the homepage and using her professional golfing experience as a unique value proposition. Mark talks about mentioning contact details in the header so users do not have to dig into the footer to find this information.

Collection Page: Add secondary hover images, this should be a lifestyle image. Add review stars under products that have multiple reviews.

Product Page: Use swatches for variants with less than 5 options. Hide variants with only one option. Bring the ATC out on it’s own line and not share space with other elements. Size guide should be positioned below the size variants. Include lifestyle images alongside cutout images. With products that are on the higher end, it is important to include a closeup image of the product to show off the quality. The descriptions need more than just details of the product. Inject emotion and stories into your copy. Remove social sharing from product pages. Eric mentions emphasizing Free Shipping.

Cart Page: Cart should update automatically which will make the update button unnecessary.  Suppress third party payments options if they are not being used. Make sure the hierarchy of focus in on the Proceed to Checkout button.

Checkout: Add support details within the Checkout logo. Add placeholder text within the email and phone fields.

    Critique 3

1:17:20 – Critique number 3 is for Krystie Yeo, https://shop.adapted4specialed.com/products/life-skills-file-folders-mega-bundle.

Product Page: The team commend Krystie on her breakdown of product images. Krystie does such a great job of clearly explaining the product. The one job left is to communicate this in the product description too. Users will make use of both images and descriptions to make a decision. The icons under the ATC are blurry because the pixels/file size is too small.
