Hey hey Ecom Insiders … remember this. The quality of your thinking determines the quality of your business … or rather your brand … which is what we all advocate that you build.
And so this includes the quality of your ideas.
I don’t know about you, but whenever I have to come up with ideas … it turns out that they’re the most obvious, unoriginal ideas to have ever been thought of 🤣…
… but I have to get them out of my head and on paper to see them for what they are … and clear the way for new ideas to come through.
And so whatever you can do to escape the routine ideas that you come up with … so you can come up with better ideas … then do it.
Spend 30 mins emptying your brain of every single marketing idea … and only then, start to pay attention.
Go read a biography or marketing book that’s aimed at a completely different market than yours … see what new inspiration you get from reading something outside your industry.
Go look at Amazon reviews for products, or related products and get ideas from what the customers have written (HInt: I get a PA to go in and copy all the reviews into a single document, and then I read that instead of scrolling through Amazon).
One man who thought ‘ideas’ were vitally important was advertising legend, David Ogilvy … and he said:
“It takes a big idea to attract the attention of consumers and get them to buy your product. Unless your advertising contains a big idea, it will pass like a ship in the night. I doubt if more than one campaign in a hundred contains a big idea.” ~ David Ogilvy
So … just ONE idea could be all the difference between a mediocre year and an outrageous success.
