Critiques:
Critique 1
0:08:45 – Critique number 1 is for Jeff Monson, https://www.monstermagnetics.com/. Unique Magnetic Products.
Homepage: The team struggle with understanding the naming conventions for the navigation menu items. Simplifying the Collection names so customers who don’t know the brand, understand what they are looking for is crucial in reducing friction and click fear. The search bar should be more prominent, data has shown us that customers who use the search function to be our valuable customers. Since then we have increased the size of our search bars and use them throughout each page on most stores.
Bret then takes a look over the copy and offers some insight. Problem, Agitate, Solve. This is a very popular copy formula that once mastered can offer great results.
Product Page: Using punchy words for your bullet points instead of starting every bullet point with the letter ‘A’. Replacing long winded copy with an image or short video. People only read enough to make a purchase, shortening the copy and offering a ‘read more’ tab for visitors who aren’t completely convinced.
Cart: Replacing the payment icons on mobile with the logo and contact details to the right. Always ensure the payment icons are in context.
Critique 2
1:22:20 – Critique number 2 is for Nathan, manapotions.com. Energy drinks geared to gamers.
Homepage: The team discuss how Nathan can improve his homepage banner by calling out his audience better. There is wasted real estate with mentioning the logo twice. Personalizing the homepage to resonate with your audience will provide unique value to your customers. Using their lingo and what they get from your products.
Product Page: ATC button is lacking visual hierarchy because it shares the same color as other colors on the site. This color needs to be unique (usually green). Product titles are not descriptive enough, it could include the flavor of the product, or the main benefit (8+ hours of improved energy).
Checkout: Suppress third party payments to the Payment page. Make sure all your CTA buttons share the same unique color.
