Critiques:
Critique 1
0:04:20 – Critique number 1 is for Brent Bottelsen, https://www.type2diet.com/. Diabetes management shake.
Homepage: We start on mobile as the majority of the traffic is on mobile. The text on the banner image is blending in with the background and lacks any CTA button. There is a little too much spacing between the UVP icons, they could be a little more compact which will bring other elements further up the fold. Dom suggests using polls to figure out what your customers really care about and crafting UVP’s around those. Dom suggests adding a shaker bottle as an upsell. Ingredients icon image is too small on mobile. Replace built in theme review function with the Stamped review slider. Increase the size of the icons at the bottom of the homepage and push the “Made in the USA” value proposition.
Product Page: The nutritional facts in the product images are too hard to read. Move the review stars up under the price. There are no lifestyle images, they are all mockups and photoshopped. Include at least 1-2 images of the product in scale and in use. Show off the different tub sizes is another image also. The UVP icons lack congruency in their style, consider gray-scaling the icons too. Disable inline scrolling on the product description, this is located in the theme settings. The spacing within the product description isn’t congruent and it is a wall of text which is really overwhelming for readers. Break the text up with bullet points and images to more digestible chunks.
Cart Page: Remove the payment icon, include a cart page link so users can go to a dedicated cart page. Add the buy now pay later option on the product page near the price. Add a upsell on the product page or the cart page.
Checkout: You can use OCU if you wish to customize your checkout to appear as checkout bump does. You should still optimize your microtext within the checkout fields. If you are not using sms marketing then remove the mobile field.
Critique 2
0:45:30 – Critique number 2 is for Ivana Mitrovic, https://www.oilspraybottle.com/. Cooking oil spray bottle.
Homepage: The banner image doesn’t provide much value because of the opacity. The navigation links are far too small and the height of the navigation bar is also too small. Replace the search icon with the words “search”. Font size should be a minimum of 16px. Icons on the banner have been compressed too much as they have gone pixelated. Eric mentions Shopify automatically compress your images if the theme supports it. Product image size needs to be capped at a certain resolution as they are too big. Remove the watermarks from your product image as this immediately destroys credibility and looks like you have taken the images.
Jacob talks about the direction of the brand and what you are really trying to convey and sell to your customers. The unique value propositions should not all be related to weight loss.
Banner image has disappeared on mobile. You may need to design a mobile specific banner so it is readable and responsive for smaller screen resolutions.
Collection Page: Create the collections you want to show instead of using default collections.
Product Page: Each product image should show off a different angle or feature, and not more of the same thing. Replace the review that is currently positioned above the ATC. Eric mentions that you should call out the free shipping threshold before the product page.
Cart Page: Icons are far too small. Eric talks about including a dynamic shipping cost and the progress bar.
Checkout: Include support details within the checkout logo. Add the microtext within the email and phone field.
